Our History

Founding and Early Years

Wajir Teachers Training College was established in 2015. At that time, North Eastern Kenya faced a severe shortage of qualified teachers. Communities in Wajir, Mandera, and Garissa were heavily affected. As a result, the quality of primary education was declining. Therefore, the college was founded with a clear mandate — to provide accessible, high-quality teacher training in Kenya.

Growth and Development

Since its founding, WTTC has made remarkable progress. The college has expanded its capacity and upgraded its facilities. Furthermore, it has strengthened its academic programmes to meet national standards. Our flagship programme, the Diploma in Primary Teacher Education (DPTE), has produced hundreds of qualified P1 teachers. Consequently, these graduates now serve in primary schools across Wajir County and beyond.

Reputation and Impact

Over the years, WTTC has built a strong reputation for academic excellence. In addition, the college is known for practical teacher training and deep community engagement. As a result, WTTC has become a reliable centre for teacher education in northern Kenya. Today, it plays a vital role in closing the education gap across the region.
